Welcome to the Advanced Dutch Grammar of Virtual Dutch. This grammar is aimed at intermediate and advanced students of Dutch. Basically, that means anyone who has followed a beginners course in Dutch successfully. If you are a beginner interested in Dutch grammar, we advise you to use our Beginners Dutch Grammar. The Advanced Dutch Grammar can be used independently or as part of an existing course. Partners of Virtual Dutch use it alongside the intermediate course Hogelands.

The Advanced Dutch Grammar consists of six units. You do not have to go through them in linear fashion. Use the tabs to navigate through the site. Note that the links in this grammar have been marked to facilitate its navigation.

When you click on Subject index, you will find the grammatical topics arranged alphabetically. Where appropriate the grammar offers a link to the same topic in the Beginners Dutch Grammar.

Each unit is accompanied by a number of exercises. They are self-correcting exercises that can be completed independently.

The Advanced Dutch Grammar was first written and produced by Agaath de Vries and Roel Vismans at the University of Hull. In 2007-08 it was revised and self-correcting exercises were developed by An Vanderhelst (at University College London) and Roel Vismans (at the University of Sheffield) as part of a Nederlandse Taalunie funded project to optimise the two grammars of Virtual Dutch. If you have any comments about the Advanced Dutch Grammar, please send them to Roel Vismans.
