Diminutive - Verkleinwoord
A diminutive is a particular form of a noun that indicates that the person or thing referred to is small in size, or that the speaker has a special affection for that person or thing.
The diminutive is formed by adding –je to the singular form of the noun in question, although under certain phonological rules this may be -tje, -etje, -pje or -kje. The rules for this are explained in our @beginners grammar.
Diminutives are het-words (in the singular; in the plural they are de-words like all plurals).
