Project in Dutch Cultural Studies

Description: The module allows you to explore an agreed topic in some depth and write a substantial essay on it, in either English or Dutch. Topics can vary to reflect your personal interests and preferences, but they must involve the broad area of modern Dutch and Flemish society and culture. A project involves four components: (i) the formulation of a research question with appropriate set of materials and methodology; (ii) a period of data collection, research, note-taking and reflection, (iii) project management and (iv) the production of a written report together with a retrospective account reflecting on research methodology and project management.

Learning outcomes: At the end of the course you will have acquired research skills appropriate to postgraduate-level study; basic project management skills; data-gathering, analytical and sustained writing skills.

Module code: DUTCGD03.

Value: 30 credits (12 ECTS).

Delivery: term I, in consultation with your Project supervisor. The course is delivered through UCL Virtual Learning Platform Moodle and webcam-type personal tutorials.

Tutor: Christine Sas, who will assign personal Project supervisors to match your topic. 

Assessment: Coursework totalling some 5,000 words.
