Short Course: Lagelands Beginners Dutch Language Course
Next start date: September 2010. Lagelands is a tutor-supported online course for beginning learners of Dutch for which no prior knowledge of Dutch is required. The course consists of ten chapters. Each chapter includes reading and listening texts (mainly dialogues), accompanied by comprehension and vocabulary exercises. There is also a grammar section (with a link to a separate reference grammar of Dutch), and a section on pronunciation. Each chapter also has a number of general exercises to practise listening, writing and speaking. Many exercises are self-correcting, but some need to be mailed to the course tutor for feedback. Each chapter ends with a revision section and a comprehensive final assignment which is sent to the tutor for feedback. The reference grammar contains further self-correcting exercises which are freely available for private study. Learning outcomes At the end of the course you will have gained • a post-beginner level of proficiency in Dutch, equivalent to a CEF or level A2 as defined by the Council of Europe: you will be able to cope with a variety of everyday activities, such as going shopping, asking and showing the way and introducing yourself; • insight into language structure and aspects of Dutch and Flemish culture; • well developed self study skills. What do you need for this course? You need internet access, a computer and webcam as described in our Computer Specifications section. You are provided with a folder containing a course outline, as well as printed versions of the dialogues and written texts (with accompanying vocabulary lists) which you encounter in the course.
